Odọdún Obìnrin (Every Year, Woman)

Odọdún Obìnrin celebrates the enduring strength, beauty, and spirituality of women in Yoruba culture. The deep-blue head wrap and emerald necklace honor feminine dignity and wealth of spirit, while the white flower represents purity and renewal. I built the background with layered tissue paper to create a tactile surface, then washed it in warm orange and yellow hues to suggest vitality and light. Hand-painted Yoruba verses weave through the backdrop, praising women as embodiments of hope, character, and cosmic power. By blending traditional text with contemporary mixed media, I aim to preserve cultural heritage while inviting viewers everywhere to reflect on women’s resilience and the divine energy they carry.
