Shine Shine Bobo

₦420,000.00

Medium: Found object; Newspaper ad page of Star Beer, Oil Pastels, Markers, Acrylic on canvas. Shine shine bobo” is Nigerian street slang for a well-dressed, polished man who knows how to show up. She teases him with it across the table, he replies with a wink, glasses raised, a Star Beer bottle between them. The old newspaper ad promises a brighter life. It already feels like one. Warm yellows and deep oranges flood the surface, the colours of an evening going well. The green Star bottle sits at the centre, undeniable, the way it always was on a beer parlour table. Star Beer at ₦1.73. A different Nigeria, a simpler bid for someone’s attention.
